2:00 PM - 4:00 PMCCSLife Unscripted: (Previously “THE MOTH”)
Our speaker will recount his childhood during the brutal Siege of Leningrad, an 872-day German blockade that stands as one of history's deadliest, claiming an estimated 1.5 million lives. Considered by historians to be a genocide due to the deliberate destruction and systematic starvation of civilians, the siege tragically claimed the lives of Yury's father and grandmother. His mother faced the unimaginable task of caring for her three young children amidst these horrors, yet she persevered, keeping them alive.
As conditions eased, Yury pursued an education, was conscripted into the Russian army, and worked in the military. Later, after a decade-long wait for Soviet exit clearance, he and wife Tanya journeyed to Italy, enduring six months of financial hardship before finally reaching Boston and starting life anew.
Join us to hear Yury and Tatyana’s incredible story of resilience and the unwavering determination that propelled them toward a better future for their family.
