B'nei Mitzvah

Becoming one of the b'nei mitzvah, literally "children of mitzvah," is a rite of passage for Jewish children that celebrates the onset of Jewish adulthood and solemnifies a commitment to Jewish learning and living in the future.  Students at Cape Cod Synagogue are called to the Torah to read our scripture, lead worship, and teach about the weekly parashah.  Our students stand in the heritage of Jews extending to the days of Ezra the Scribe, some 2500 years ago, who have publicly read and taught Torah.

B'nei mitzvah students are all Hebrew Level Three students.

Parent Resources

Wondering how you can best help your child prepare for their ceremony?

Our children are very smart, so be sure to live the values and practices that they are learning themselves.  Your parental example of Jewish involvement is the most powerful lesson you can impart to your child.

  • Come to worship with your family
  • Engage in Jewish learning at home and at the Synagogue
  • Give tzedakah for Jewish causes
  • Volunteer your time for social action and social justice causes
  • Go to Jewish cultural events and bring the kids along
  • Read Jewish books and stories to your children when they are younger
  • Watch movies together with Jewish content and themes
  • Make sure that your children practice their b'nei mitzvah lessons regularly, and be there to help them.  You can learn the same prayers that they do!  Click here if you need some extra help with a transliterated document
