 The Moth: CCS-Style!
First talk of the series – Sunday, April 28th, 3:00 pm
 
Renaissance group is pleased to invite the entire CCS community, of all ages, to join us for a series of Sunday afternoon talks based on “The Moth” PBS show. Our guest speakers (CCS members and friends) will share tales of their fascinating, unusual, and surprising childhoods, backgrounds and careers.
 
Guest: Vladimir Torchilin: The Definition of a Renaissance Man
 
  • Recipient of the 1982 Lenin Prize in Science and Technology for the use of immobilized enzymes in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases
  • University Distinguished Professor and Director of both the Center for Translational Cancer Nanomedicine and the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine at Northeastern University
  • Prolific writer of published fiction, essays and short stories in Russian and English
  • Notable art collector of close to 2,000 items comprised of paintings, prints, ceramics and books, most of them of Russian origin
Vladimir will be devoting his talk and projected images to the works of Jewish artists born and trained in Russia, starting with works of the Russian Empire period, progressing through the post-war era of the Soviet “Forbidden Art” and ending in the present.
 
Please join us in this enlightening afternoon!
No charge. Synagogue membership is not required.
 
A traditional “Afternoon Tea” is planned.

 

Fruit and assorted teas will be provided.

NO BREAD, NO CAKES, NO COOKIES THAT ARE NOT KOSHER FOR PASSOVER. IF YOU ARE NOT CERTAIN, PLEASE ASK BEFORE BRINGING FOOD INTO THE SYNAGOGUE
